An evening for the ocean – our future.

We hosted a powerful screening of David Attenborough’s latest documentary

Last night was nothing short of extraordinary. In partnership with the MedFilm Festival, we hosted a powerful screening of David Attenborough’s latest documentary, Ocean, a breathtaking and heart-wrenching journey into the depths of a world more mysterious than space itself. As the film unfolded, we were immersed in the beauty and fragility of the ocean, a realm teeming with life yet silently suffering under the weight of human exploitation. From the devastating impact of deep-sea trawling to the alarming disappearance of iconic species like corals and sharks, the documentary laid bare the consequences of our actions. It was impossible not to be moved. Tears welled up as we witnessed once-thriving underwater meadows transformed into barren wastelands, eerily reminiscent of nuclear fallout zones. These are not distant tragedies; they are happening now, in countless corners of the planet, every single day.

Attenborough’s message was clear and urgent: the ocean is under siege, a victim of what he calls “modern colonialism at sea.” But amid the sorrow, there was also hope. The film reminded us that the power to change lies within us. We hold the solutions. We know what needs to be done and the solutions lie in collaboration with coastal and indigenous communities, fishers and in investment in sustainability.

After the screening, we turned our attention to the Mediterranean, our shared sea, now heavily impacted by overfishing, climate change, industrial activity, and pollution. The conversation was sobering but also empowering. We explored the vital role of Marine Protected Areas in restoring balance and biodiversity, and the urgent need for collective action from policymakers, citizens, and businesses alike, especially as world leader gather in Belèm for Cop30.

It’s time to act. To protect. To restore. To honor the ocean not just as a source of wonder, but as the very foundation of life on Earth. Let’s not wait for another warning.

Let’s be the answer.
