Let's save the Côte d’Azur from plastic pollution

Coastal activities are responsible for half of the plastic entering the sea. In the next weeks, the Blue Panda will be in the most iconic "Riviera" of the Mediterranean that is now experiencing top level of plastic contamination: the Bay of Nice and Marseille. Join us to #StopPlasticPollution.

The Bays of Nice and Marseille represent a real plastic hotspot: each km of its coast receives 9.4 kg of plastic debris every day, almost double the average in the Mediterranean (5kg/km/day). From the 13th to the 23rd of August, WWF will be here to mobilize tourists and locals against plastic pollution in the Mediterranean. We will also announce the first Mediterranean city officially engaging with WWF on the fight against plastic. Stay tuned!!

THE PROGRAM

NICE: 13-16 AUGUST

- Port, Quai Infernet (except from 16 August)
Guided tours on the boat: from 9 am to 8 pm, come on board of the Blue Panda to meet the crew and and learn from our teams about our work and how we can all act against plastic pollution.

Plastic stand: visitors will participate in various activities about the Mediterranean and plastic waste. Everyone will be invited to share his/her experience and sign WWF’s petition for a binding global treaty to stop plastic in nature by 2030.

- Quai des Etats-Unis, in front of the Opera
Children's activity "Plastic obstacle race": by overcoming similar obstacles (fishing nets, plastic bottles etc) as those that marine species face in the sea, kids will learn about the impact of plastic pollution on marine animals, like turtles and whales.

MARSEILLE: 20-23 AUGUST

The same activities organized in Nice will happen in Vieux Port, Quai d’Honneur and Plage des Prophètes.

Special: Short Movie Night: on the 21st of August at 20.30, join us together with Surfrider Foundation Europe for a series of short movies dedicated to plastic pollution and ocean conservation.

France is the 3rd stop of the Blue Panda’s six-month journey across the Mediterranean, mobilising people along the coasts of Italy, Greece, France, Turkey, Tunisia and Morocco to #StopPlasticPollution and for #OilFreeGreece! Our next stop will be Istanbul, in September.
